Punchvergance - Convergence: Action Comics #2

Convergence: Action Comics #2 Cover Date:  July 2015 Released:  27th May 2015 We are now in the punching part of the story! And as a long time reader of this blog, I'm sure at least one person is paying attention, fight scenes are not my most favourite parts of the comic. And they're really, really difficult to describe using text. We start with Kara and Andrew sharing a moment, and a kiss before Kara flies off to fight for the city. And even though I'm not the biggest fan of the relationship, and the fact she and supes flew off the last issue it's actually a really sweet scene. I'm also contractually obliged to mention this is the only time we actually see the two kiss each other.  Whilst Huntress gets the cool fight with Superman and meets Soviet Batman (the art is a little fuzzy but great story, how it fits with Earth-2 canon is a different story. If enough people are interested I'll do my summary/review type thing) Power Girl just gets a dogfight in the ai

Domestic heroics - Convergence: Action Comics #1

Convergence: Action Comics Cover Date:  June 2015 Released:  29th April 2015 In 2015 DC Comics moved its offices from the vaguely sinister 666 Fifth Avenue to a new address. To cover for the move they did a limited event that lasted two months that included eight issues of the main series and every other comic getting a two-part mini-series. All were callbacks to earlier ages and characters, many giving those characters happy endings that they couldn't in previous ages. For instance, Dick and Kori got together (as did Dick and Barbara) and Roy Harper got his daughter Lian back alive and well. The basic setup was that certain cities, through the various DC universe, had been cut off for a year with no one having powers. The main comic was about the mystery of why whilst the supplementary comics were about two cities being made to fight each other (it was billed as four, but half were obviously ringers). I say fight, but about half ended up working out a deal with each other rather t

Action Comics (1938-2011) #252 Cover Date: May 1959 Release Date: March 31, 1959 Before we go into the first solo(ish) Power Girl story let's take a moment to look at the story of her Earth-1 counterpart that started it all! Back in the '50 Action Comics was still an anthology comic so we get three stories in the issues, the first is the origin of the original Metallo, the second Congorilla and finally the reason we're here the origins of Supergirl. It's weird to think this was third on the billing for what is probably the most important character of the story, even a decade later she'd probably get an issue all of her own. Not normally one to talk about the covers, but how can I not mention this iconic cover? I for one have a soft spot for text boxes on covers, but it so perfectly sums up the story that you don't really need them. The story starts by very insistently insisting that yes this is a real thing that is really happening. Your classic Not a dream! N
