What Matters Most - Aquaman #7

Image
Aquaman #7 What Matters Most June 1992 The comic is an amazing story of Aquaman recovering from a psychotic break after the death of his son. But that had nothing to do with Pee Gee's appearance, just showing that he's joined the current JLE, though he lacks the Tom Jones looks of that comic.

Changing - Justice League Europe #37

CHANGING JUSTICE LEAGUE EUROPE #37 Published: 17 th March 1992 Cover Date: April 1992 Cover Artists:   Ron Randall / Murphy Anderson / Bob LeRose Writer:   Penciler:  Ron Randall Inker:   Randy Elliott Colourist:   Gene D'Angelo Letterer:   Willie Schubert Editors:   Brian Augustyn Introduction Today I learned two new words reading this comic, which is good as if shows that comics can be educational. This sounds like I'm about to say this because there's nothing else good about this comic, which surprisingly I'm not, though it's not as simple as you'd first expect! Plot Sypnosis We start with a full page of cheesecake as Kimiyo (Doctor Light), who for some reason is in just a towel is zipping up Power Girl's new costume. Ralph, who seems to be innocent here rather than a letch, has the door slammed in his face for looking in on the scene. He then talks to Sue who seems to have been put in charge as they explain that this "new" JLE is being launched

Justice League Europe #36 - Breakdowns: Postscript

BREAKDOWNS: POSTSCRIPT JUSTICE LEAGUE EUROPE #36 Published: 4th February 1992 Cover Date:  March 1992 Cover Artists:   Kevin Maguire / Karl Kesel Writer:   Penciler:  Chris Wozniak Inker:   Robert Campanella Colourist:   Gene D'Angelo Letterer:   Willie Schubert Editors:   Brian Augustyn Introduction The New Year is always a time to look forward to beginnings, so obviously I've chosen to look at the end (or a tacked-on bit at least) of the Giffin / DeMatteis JLI/JLE run. Partly it's my way to celebrate Shag's podcast meeting this bitter-sweet moment, and just because he was crazy enough to let be on an episode, but also as we enter five years of this blog (some better than others) I thought it was a good time to tackle a big blank spot in my comic knowledge... the 90s! Synopsis All good, or at least competent, comic book writers carefully put back all the toys in the box, so the oncoming team has the choice to pick things up and start from there. This was done skillfull

Justice League Europe #14 - You Oughtta Be In Pictures

YOU OUGHTTA BE IN PICTURES JUSTICE LEAGUE EUROPE #14 Published:   3rd April 1990 Cover Date:  May 1990 Cover Artists:   Bart Sears Writer:  Keith Giffen Penciler:  Linda Medley Inker:   José Marzan, Jr. Colourist:   Gene D'Angelo Letterer:   Albert DeGuzman Editors:   Kevin Dooley / Andrew Helfer Introduction In one of those strange coincidences we're picking up with the JLE more or less where I left off last time, though to be fair I've been skipping things for a little while. Truth be told the handling of Pee Gee isn't one of my favourites and having seen them covered recently I've held back a little so I could get a little distance for a relatively fresh look at the book (hopefully). Sypnosis Seven years ago we have a relatively geeky person with his high-tech device of a video cassette recorder! When he's struck by electricity or lighting, lightning is all good for this in the DC Universe, his consciousness is somehow stuck in the device! But in a piece of

Adventures of Superman #463 - Speed Kills!

Image
Adventures of Superman #463 Speed Kills! February 1990 It's one of the classic Superman vs. Flash races, though this time it's caused by the efforts of one Mister Mxyzptlk. During the race we see various people reacting to the race. One of those is the current JLE, who at this time includes Pee Gee, she's less than keen on Wally Flash winning, which makes total sense considering how much of a pillock he is in the then-current JLE comic.

Je t'aime (surtout) JLE - Justice League Europe #1

How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On the Farm After They've Seen Paree? Justice League Europe #1 Cover Date:  April 1989 Released:  28th February 1989 ⋅ Writers:   Keith Giffen / J.M. DeMatteis  ⋅   ⋅  Pencilers:  Bart Sears    ⋅  Inkers:  Pablo Marcos  ⋅   ⋅  Colourists:  Gene D'Angelo  ⋅  Letterers:  Bob Lappan   ⋅   ⋅  Editors:  Kevin Dooley / Andrew Helfer ⋅    So I owe this comic an apology... That being that all through the last post about JLI #24 about how all of the plot development set up about Pee Gee was going to be ignored going forward to her being a part of JLE. Well, at least she name-drops the Lords of Chaos a couple of times! Actually, she seems really intimidated about joining the JLA, giving it some real cache that doesn't seem to be something if you look at it from the outside.  The first half of the issue is introducing all of the main characters, and here we get something we've not seen before blatant sexism! Considering Power Girl's origins is
