Wonder Woman #275
The Thinking Man's Crime

It's Hell Night for Helenaween as Gotham burns under a crime spree. Why the spree is happening now, as the plan failed, isn't really covered!

We get a few pages of Huntress and Power Girl dealing with said crime spree, though we only see a street scene and some robbers fleeing through a subway station. Much more help isn't given when one of Gotham's finest suggests that the two heroes scram due to the DA's talk about banning vigilantes (obviously, he hadn't heard that the bill was repealed).

When Power Girl is the voice of reason about forgiving the DA, especially as she pointed out what the JSA has done for the city (though, obviously, today they were busy elsewhere). Meanwhile, The Thinker shows up in Sim's office to show just who's in charge here, and also helpfully sums up the rest of the plot.

Helena was waiting outside the office, but on hearing someone leaving through another door goes and changes to meet Power Girl on a ledge opposite the building. This is handy as it's the perfect position to see Sim's tumble out of the window, under the macinations of the Thinker.

As the two heroes catch the man, he asks for help from Helena, showing that he knows her secret identity!
For a city-wide crime spree, we get very little crime; instead, we get a summary of the key points of the plot, which again makes this middle issue basically throwaway.

I also owe you all an apology for my original misreading of the Helena / Harry Sims' relationship. Originally, I took them as being in a romantic relationship, with Kara being upset for being a third wheel. But it's actually more of a friend defending another who's apparently made a bad decision, with Pee Gee being the (angry) voice of reason.
So that makes this rereading of these comics totally worth it!
