Power Girls Costumes - 2023 edition
The Past
Because Pee Gee has had so few costumes it is very simple to tell when an event is meant to have happened. This is exactly what we got this year in The Golden Years and boy what a costume they choose!
Boob-windowless costume
As has been told many times the story of Wally Wood and the every-growing boobs is a myth (though he did obviously create her busty to start with) but he did make the boob window grow slightly each time, something that the editors realized by All-Stars #64 (the cover obviously had to be quickly covered up).The costume only lasted five issues and was in this weird place where Pee Gee was still pretty grumpy and angry, as can be seen in the comic, not long after she get's her scalloped topped costume she spends her mini-series chilling out ready for her meeting of Huntress, but hey we've covered all this before!
The only weird part of this costume used in the issue is that the villain they faced, Vulcan (who I will never not be amused by the fact they decided to call him Christopher Pike) was a good four issues ago and included them facing down members of the ISA!
The Present
Okay a bit of a cheat here, but it's for a good reason, in the future (possibly maybe) we see an actual new costume, one we've actually
never seen before! I mean we've seen it before because it's basically Supergirl's costume with a boob window. It also means, ironically, that as Supergirl starts wearing pants and cutting her hair short Pee Gee has gone in the opposite direction!
I doubt we'll actually get to see this costume much, I suspect that this future won't be seen once we setup whatever going on, but if it changes obviously I will let people know!
The Future
Next year, 2023, looks to be a big year for Power Girl, not only is she going to play a part in the first event, Lazarus Planet, which also leads to her getting a three-part mini-series in Action Comics! If you don't know how big a deal that is take a look at how often she's been in the comic, it won't take you long because it's never! And as the lovely art revealed by the artist Marguerite Sauvage shows she's getting an S-jacket! This is another big thing because DC has recently been pushing the SUperman family, a counterpart of the Batfamily, with almost every other super-related figure hanging out in the stories, except Pee Gee who seemed to be left out in the cold. Hopefully, the fact she has the family jacket means she'll play a part in future Super-Fam adventures!
I think Marguerite drew a Future State: Supergirl issue, so pretty exciting to see their take on PeeGee. 2023 is promising to be an interesting year for Kara!
