Kara in Warlord-land, part 2 - Warlord 121-124

Warlord #121 (September 1987)
The two women search the island but can't find the demon, and Kara is finally named here, they go back into the shrine to learn some learning machines to view history tapes about this demon (whose names I'm not even going to try and spell). You'd think Kara would have had enough dealing with VR considering her experiences in Showcase #99, but I guess this is an emergency after all!
They find out how Arion defeated and bound the demon to the crystal before being awoken by the place apparently shaking. The sequence in the clear learning hoods has some very goofy facial expressions in what been so far been really excellent art so far.
The demon is then quickly found awaking a local volcano to get the first part of a power sceptre it needs to complete its diabolic schemes. Kara flies right in, only to get zapped straight away by the staff, Morgan does better with her magic though eventually she is grabbed by the demon and thrown away, luckily Kara had recovered enough to catch the other young woman whilst the demon again flees.
Warlord Annual #6 (October 1987)
We get one page of Jennifer and Kara looking for the demon and then the annual gets on with the plot, which is basically Warlord fighting Darkside!
A very burly Power Girl gets the cover of this issue as she and Jennifer go after the demon and his sceptre.
The two fight the demon out at sea, between stopping its attacks harming the inhabitants of a (nearby) island. The demon again flees and they end up facing him in a desert, where's he's after the final part of the sceptre. Whilst Jennifer distracts the demon Kara burrows into the sand and recovers the missing component a massive red gem. She passes it to Jennifer who uses it to summon up a sand lich to fight the demon. Kara meanwhile creates a whirlwind to gather up and dump tons of sand upon the demon and bake it to glass with her laser vision, though it doesn't seem to hold the demon for long.
In a last-ditch attempt, Jennifer gives him the gem and whilst he's affixing it gathers up her power and give it to Kara who uses it to snatch the now completed sceptre to disintegrate the demon.
Warlord #123 (November 1987)
Finally, our titular Warlord gets to meet up with Kara, who's recovering in from her busted ribs from the demon fight. The meeting doesn't last too long as he's distracted by the eclipse of the sun. The other shenanigans go down, but Kara isn't involved which is probably good as her powers are (probably) solar powered. Or at least will be soon, it's hard to remember what this ex-Kryptonians can and can't do as she's used more of her powers than the entire run of All-Stars did!

Warlord #124 (December 1987)
With the capital being attacked with evil forces causing lava to flow around the city, ironically meaning Kara is called up to dig a ditch around the place to stop its flow (the same thing she did in the first appearance). Once it's all over Jeniffer tell Kara that her elemental forces tell her that she's needed back on the surface, she at first refused to go but Jennifer convinces her that they'll be alright and she flies back to the surface world.
And that's it the entire story told in only eight issues, and mostly this isn't even the main story going on! Even then it explores more of the history and powers of Kara than any other comic up to now. Unfortunately as far as I know, and we'll see none of this going forward, even her costume(s) here don't see any use outside of these issues. Though it is technically the first time we see her shoulder armour, thought it unlikely that she could have fitted in the costume she's leaves for the surface in. And by the time she does start wearing it this Atlantian history is well behind.
I knew nothing about this series and I was pleasantly surprised at just how well told this tale is, as mentioned this is just a sub-plot, one of many, running through the issues. To be honest, I would have liked to have seen more of this story and I'll be amazed and delighted if this story gets referenced in anyway.
