Brutal - Infinity Inc. #7

Past Glories -- Future Tears Infinity Inc #7 Cover Date:  October 1984 Released: 19st July 1984 I don't normally comment on covers, even if they're very pretty I'm more bothered by the story inside, but I've really got to mention this issue's cover and not for the best of reasons. Maybe it's my 21st-century brain but the signs of violence, and Power Girl's position, are too accurate for a comic that includes a talking ape. It's also hard not to assume things being that only Power Girl, and Huntress last issue, have been shown taking such a visceral beating. To be honest, I think it's just an artefact of Bronze Age ideas about accuracy, but it's not something I'm comfortable not mentioning. We open with a rather smug Ultra-Humanite giving us a couple page roundup of the plot so far before we get to the story proper. And boy what a first half of an issue as Power Girl and magic water influenced Superman battle it out. Fight scenes are difficult

Finally the plot! - Infinity Inc #6

Day's of future what? Divide -- and Be Conquered Infinity Inc #6 Cover Date:  September 1984 Released:  21st June 1984 As if my month-long break from the future year of 2022 has somehow settled down a comic from... oh so long ago, Infinity Inc settles down in the style of storytelling I've grown so used to from the All-Star's Comic days. As I pointed out before it's actually not that much different from the Teen Titan stuff I've been covering through February, from the... wow that long ago now! Though the Teen Titans is more in the subplot bubbling under mode rather than the split the team we've gotten here. And to be fair the last few issues have also been doing this, though I sort of missed it due to being swamped with multiple backstories! We open with Nuklon being in danger from a Green Lantern constructed vice squashing him down and threatening to impale him on its very green spikes. The teamwork together and between Obsidian and Jade's lantern inherite

Tweet the Titans - Teen Titans (vol 5) #8

One Brief, Shining Moment, part 2 Teen Titans #8 Cover Date:  May  2015 Released:  18th March 2015 I hesitate to use the term filler, all the subplots are being moved along nicely, but nothing major happens in the comic. If I was going to borrow a term from television it feels like a breather episode, where the show gives a light episode between two major plots. And having peeked ahead a little I can confirm that we're moving into a new plot. And just how the cover show thing, Tanya really isn't a major player in a story of subplots, right now her story revolves around the shadowy plotting of STAR Labs and Manchester Black. We open with the Teen Titans enjoying the adulation of having saved the city from the Eraser last issue, all the while Red Robin is being seriously mistrusting of Manchester Black, worrying about what worse toys that were mentioned. Everyone else seems to just be enjoying the moment, and in a "subtle" moment we close on someone being beaten up on

Just standing around - Teen Titans (vol 5) #7

One Brief, Shining Moment, part 1 Teen Titans #7 Cover Date:  April  2015 Released:  18th February 2015 Confusingly this is really the third part of the story, I assume it had something to do with the pace of the story but it still seems a little sketchy. We'll see if part two makes more sense as a follow on, or is really part four.  We start with the Titan's getting together and rushing to the island to help, it makes a big deal (rightly so) of both Beast Boy and Raven are willing to risk themselves to help the janitors from the last issue. I'm used to a slightly more selfish Beast Boy, so it's nice to see him be more caring, though he's still the wise-ass we know and love. We also have the first appearance of Tanya's Power Girl costume, and it's the first time I've realised that the golden oval on her chest is a... homage to Kara's famous boob window, the artist here even adds shadows to make it even more obvious. We have a moment, and just a momen

Not so secret origins - Teen Titans (Vol 5) #6

Human Resources, part 2 Teen Titans #6 Cover Date:  March  2015 Released:  21st January 2015 We start where we left off with Tanya holding up the truck and the Titan's seem suitably impressed with her sudden appearance. She then get's to show her strength by punching out the other side hulking powerhouse, still playing, on the whole, her being underestimated. With a whole page splash panel to boot. The fight is then quickly finished off and the Titans, plus Tanya, teleport to Beast Boy's and Bunker's apartment the Titans's not having a suitably themed headquarters yet. Here we get Tanya telling her backstory, about how this version of Power Girl granted her some of her powers before leaving for Earth-2. but not before totally legitimately passing on the legal name of Power Girl, apparently with the proper paperwork and everything. We get also get that she worked for Kara's company Starr Industries, with an aside to make them distinctive from STAR Labs. And that

A now for something completely different - Teen Titans (Vol 5) #5

Human Resources Teen Titans #5 Cover Date:  February 2015 Released:  17th December 2014 The one good thing about being on a more regular schedule is that I can actually plan things out a little bit more. And one of those things is to celebrate certain important events throughout the year, so to start we're celebrating Black History Month with the other Power Girl Tanya Spears. And as the US and UK have different Black History Month 's I plan it as a twice-yearly  thing, with some now and more in October. And no Infinity Inc didn't break me so badly that I had to retreat to something more modern! (though even this is seven years old at this point). Whilst I could have started with Tanya's first appearance in World Finest #23 I plan to cover those, eventually, when I get to nu52's Power Girl. So instead we'll go with her first post Kara appearance, and as it seems anyone who's called Power Girl can't appear in a book that isn't a team-based we're

Drowning in plot - Infinity Inc #5

Dead Men's Bluff! Infinity Inc #5 Cover Date:  August  1984 Released:  24 th May 1984 First let me be clear I really like this comic, it's really well told and pretty to look at! That and it probably has some of the strongest Helena panels we've had in a long time. I've never seen the deal with deconstructed comics before, but this patience trying. But hey we get Ultra-Humanite at the end, you know the whole reason this comic started in the first place! We start with a little play fighting as Lyta takes out her frustration with her mothers (Wonder Woman) apparent death with Silver Scarab. This end with a little playful flirting after Lyta thinks she's knocked him out with a massive rock. I know where this goes, though I didn't pick up on the name at the time, as I've mentioned elsewhere I'm a Vertigo kid so it's a neat link but I won't spoil the surprise until the time comes. The main body is in various offices dealing with various men, men bei
